Triggering a fresh round of politics, the much-awaited council meeting of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) will now be held on December 13, said Chairperson Kishan Suryavanshi on Saturday.
A total of 21 proposals approved by the MIC will be presented at the council meeting, which has suffered a delay of over a month. As per the rules, the meeting should have been convened within two months after it last met on 2 September.
Suryavanshi said that council members will meet to discuss the predefined agenda, which includes an extension of ongoing PM Awas Yojana (PMAY) projects in the state capital.
On Friday, 21 out of 22 proposals were approved in the MIC (Mayor in Council) meeting.
Prominent among the approvals is a development plan for Shahpura Lake with an outlay of Rs 9 crore and the inspection of water pipeline work under AMRUT 2.0.Repeated delays in the council meeting had earlier come in for sharp criticism from the Opposition Congress, who had sought the intervention of Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Singh.Several MIC members have been demanding the replacement of Additional Commissioner Devendra Singh Chauhan.
However, the demands were vetoed by Municipal Commissioner Harendra Narayan, who said that the removal of the official would not be appropriate at this juncture due to an impending visit from the Swachh Survekshan team.
