Sitaram Yechury kept INDIA bloc united: Rahul Gandhi

Sunday, 29 September 2024 | Pioneer News Service | New Delhi

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi paid emotional tribute to late CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury on Saturday terming him as a glue between Congress and other parties in the INDIA bloc. Speaking at the condolence meet, Rahul said Yechury was 100% trustworthy person who never compromises. “It’s rare to see politics bring out the best in someone. I saw Yechury from the first day I started my political journey, and I observed him quite carefully. What I found was someone who was flexible and who listened,” he said.

Whatever he did, he always acted in the best interest of our country. Every single time, his starting point was India, said Rahul. He shared memories of Yechury’s habit of smoking cigarettes, something Yechury was never able to quit.

Rahul also reminisced on the time the two leaders would talk about BJP or the RSS and said that the late leader wouldn’t say that they were doing this and that, just that “this is a danger to the country”.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also paid tribute to Sitaram Yechury and noted his “huge role” in the formation of INDIA bloc.

Left leaders Prakash Karat, Brinda Karat, D Raja, Pinarayi Vijayan, Dipankar Bhattacharya, other opposition leaders Supriya Sule, Kanomozhi, Farooq Abdullah, Gopal Rai and Ram Gopal Yadav also spoke on the condolence meet.
