In a boost to the BJP on the day of the third phase of polling for the Lok Sabha polls, actor and TV personality Shekhar Suman, who recently garnered attention for his role in Netflix's Heeramandi, joined the BJP at the party headquarters in Delhi, adding to the list of other actors including Kangana Ranaut, Arun Govil and Rupali Ganguly, who joined the saffron camp amid the elections. Former Congress National Media Coordinator Radhika Kheda also joined the BJP a day after she resigned from the Congress.
Addressing the media in the presence of senior BJP leaders, including National General Secretary Vinod Tawde and National Media Department In-Charge Anil Baluni, at the party headquarters on Tuesday, Suman said, "Till yesterday, I did not know that I would be sitting here today because many things in life happen knowingly or unknowingly. I have come here with a very positive thinking and I would like to thank God that he ordered me to come here." The actor said he was waiting for Heeramandi to get hit before joining the party. "Log kahi ye na kahe ki mere paas karne ko kuch nahi tha, isleye politics join ki. Heeramandi has now become a global hit," said the comedian-actor.He said that its probably god's wish behind him joining politics. "Hoiye vahi jo ram rach rakha" said Shekhar Suman quoting Ram Charitmanas. "Till yesterday I did not know that I would be sitting here today because many things in life happen knowingly or unknowingly. I have come here with a very positive thinking and I would like to thank God that he ordered me to come here..." added Suman.
"You have to follow what Lord Ram has thought. I don't have any negative thoughts, I am thinking only about the country. A man depends on his words but they have no meaning beyond a point. But there is a difference between saying something and doing it. I can give a long address but it will mean anything only after I have done something," the actor added, and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda, among others.
Suman is currently enjoying the success of his recently released web series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s show premiered on Netflix earlier this month and also stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal Mehta, Farida Jalal, Fardeen Khan and Adhyayan Suman in key roles. It explores the various aspects of a woman’s trials and tribulations.
Before joining the BJP, Radhika Khera made sensational allegations against Chhattisgarh Congress media chairman Sushil Anand Shukla. The former Congress national media coordinator claimed during her detailed press conference that on April 30, Chhattisgarh Congress media chief Sushil Anand Shukla started misbehaving with and abusing her when he went to talk to him. Radhika Khera further alleged that the room remained locked for around a minute and she was abused. She all the three men came towards her and no one opened the door even as she kept screaming.
