Delhi Police’s Crime Branch on Sunday claimed to have unearthed an illegal gun manufacturing unit with the arrest of two persons in the case.
According to the police, sixteen country-made pistols, six live cartridges, 41 barrels of country-made pistols and eight instruments and tools used in manufacturing illegal weapons were seized from a flat in Meerut.A senior police official said, “The Central Range of Crime Branch carried out an operation and busted a factory of manufacturing illegal weapons which was found running in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut.”
Acting on a tip-off, a police team apprehended one 40 year old Ikram, who came to Delhi to allegedly supply illegal weapons to some criminals. “Two country made pistols and six live cartridges were recovered from his possession. A case under Arms Act was registered and he was arrested accordingly,” a senior police officer said.
“On sustained interrogation, accused Ikram disclosed that he procured weapons from one Mashook Ali, who is a resident of Meerut. The facts disclosed by the accused Ikram were further verified and developed,” he added.
Ali was then arrested from Meerut City, around 80 km northeast of the national capital. “He was put to sustained interrogation and on his instance, team raided an isolated Flat in Kashi ram Colony in Meerut where a factory was set by him for manufacturing the illegal weapons,” another police officer said.
