Gurugram Traffic Police issued 13.66 lakh challans till 28 December

In a significant crackdown on traffic violators, the Gurugram Traffic Police issued 13.66 lakh challans amounting to Rs 15.17 crore till 28 December 2024.

Under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Virender Vij, the department issued such huge number of challans, marking one of the most successful operations in 2024.

These fines include 1,74,073 challans for the wrong side, 1,49,462 challans for wrong parking, 694 challans for under-age driving, 2,15,390 challans for not wearing helmet, 27,439 challans for not wearing a seat belt, 25,968 challans for drink and drive, 17,122 challans for over speeding, 10,894 challans for signal jump, 10,967 challans for black film, 4,231 challans for using a mobile phone, 13,330 for triple riding, 33,107 without a number plate, 1,475 challans for illegal siren and 60,466 challans were issued for wrong lane driving.

"The operation was part of a larger special campaign launched across all traffic zones to target violators and reckless drivers. The traffic department is also strictly enforcing various provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act to maintain law and order on the roads," Vij said.

Apart from this, a special campaign was also conducted against the drivers who did not give way to the ambulance and 162 vehicles were challaned.

Meanwhile, a total of 333 vehicles were impounded under NGT in the year 2024, out of which 108 are diesel and 225 are petrol vehicles.

Apart from this, the Gurugram Police also identify the places with black spots and remove them. In 2024, 05 black spots were also resolved/removed by Gurugram Police.

In 2023, a total of 494 people died in 1172 road accidents. Which decreased to 448 people dying in 1019 road accidents in the year 2024. Due to this, road accidents have reduced by more than 13 per cent.

Gurugram Police has been monitoring traffic movement with the help of drones and fined those who change lanes/drive. Apart from this, with the help of drones.

In 2024, a total of 45 green corridors were given by the Traffic Police Gurugram. Out of which 9 were given for ambulances and 36 for NSG/Army and Air Force.

Under the rules of GRAP-4, checkposts were set up by Gurugram Traffic Police on all Delhi borders, and during this time, more than 7,000 vehicles violating GRAP-4 rules were challaned.
