AAP leaders not utilising MLA funds for development: Delhi BJP

Tuesday, 15 October 2024 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Delhi BJP on Monday accused AAP leaders of not utilising MLA funds for development projects in the national Capital while claiming that its leaders have utilised a substantial portion of their allocated funds for developmental work.

Referring to information provided through an RTI by the Delhi government's Urban Development Department,  Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta said, “Despite the party’s promise to provide world class services to Delhi's 20 million people, its MLAs failed to fully utilize the funds allocated for the development of their constituencies.”

He claimed that AAP MLA from Adarsh Nagar Pawan Sharma and the former minister and MLA from Shakur Basti Satyendra Jain did not spend any amount of the Rs. 4 crore allocated to them for developmental work in their areas. “Similarly, Devli MLA Prakash Jarwal spent only Rs.19.36 lakh, and Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan spent just Rs 1.17 crore on development projects,” he said.

A total of 21 AAP MLAs spent more than or less than Rs 3 crores. Narela MLA Sharad Kumar spent Rs 3.87 crores, Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha spent Rs 3.65 crores, Kiradi MLA Rituraj Govind spent Rs 3.85 crores and Nangloi MLA Raghavendra Shaukeen spent Rs 3.70 crores among others.

Three AAP MLAs including Tilak Nagar MLA General Singh spent Rs 2.58 crores, Rajouri Garden MLA Dhanwanti Chandila spent Rs 2.28 crores and Wazirpur MLA Rajesh Gupta spent Rs 2.08 crores.

On the other hand, LoP said that the BJP, which has always been committed to continuous development under the slogan 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas', saw its MLAs utilizing a substantial portion of their allocated funds for developmental work.

“According to the information provided by the Urban Development Department, BJP MLA Jitender Mahajan from Rohtas Nagar spent Rs 4.40 crore, Gonda MLA Ajay Mahawar spent Rs 4.10 crore, Gandhinagar MLA Anil Bajpai spent Rs 4.09 crore, Karawal Nagar MLA Mohan Singh Bisht spent Rs 4.05 crore, Rohini MLA and Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta spent Rs 4.03 crore, and Vishwas Nagar MLA Om Prakash Sharma spent Rs 4.03 crore on developmental activities,” he said.

He added that this indicates that all BJP MLAs took great interest in the development of their constituencies, each spending over Rs 4 crore on projects.

Commenting on Delhi Chief Minister Atishi's recent decision to increase the MLA fund from Rs 10 crore to Rs 15 crore, Gupta said, “It makes no difference to AAP MLAs, as they lack both interest and willpower to carry out developmental work, regardless of the amount of funds available.”
