Dreaded foreign terrorists from Pakistan bore the maximum brunt of anti-terrorists operations across Jammu and Kashmir in 2024.
According to a latest assessment of the security agencies, during 2024 around 60 percent of terrorists killed in anti-terrorist operations were Pakistani nationals.
Majority of these foreign terrorists were well-trained for jungle warfare, well-equipped and battle-hardened combatants.
These terrorists were pushed inside the Indian borders from non-conventional infiltration routes due to heightened vigil along the line of control and the International border with Pakistan in the plain areas of Jammu region.
The over ground workers provided logistics support to these terrorists at the behest of their handlers operating from Pakistani soil.
These terrorists carried out well coordinated targeted strikes on army personnel and civilians across Jammu and Kashmir.
During these operations 26 security personnel and 32 civilians also attained martyrdom during the same period.
Compared to 2023, the percentage of foreign terrorists eliminated in anti-terrorist operations have come down. In 2023, over 70 percent foreign terrorists were eliminated by the security forces across Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the statistics, 75 terrorists were killed in 2024. Out of these 17 foreign terrorists were neutralized during infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), and 26 were killed in encounters in the hinterland.
The majority of foreign terrorists were neutralised across six districts of Jammu region namely Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua, Doda, Poonch and Rajouri.
In the Kashmir Valley, security forces neutralised foreign terrorists in districts such as Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara, and Kulgam.
Maximum number of 14 terrorists were killed across nine encounters in the Baramulla district.
The numbers reportedly indicate a significant decline in the presence of local terrorists operating in Jammu and Kashmir, leaving mainly Pakistani terrorists active in the region.
