Hyundai i10 Nios: A Complete Review of Features and Price

For 15 years, the Hyundai i10 has remained a steadfast and beloved nameplate. Amidst the SUV and electric vehicle trends, models like the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios often receive less attention. Following the i10, Grand i10, and Nios, Hyundai has introduced a facelifted version of the Hyundai i10 Nios. Do these updates enhance its looks and performance? Let's explore.

Hyundai Grand i10 Nios: Exterior

Indeed, a facelift in contemporary automotive design often translates to a more prominent grille, and the Nios follow suit. The grille now dominates the revised front bumper, accompanied by new tri-arrow daytime running lights below. While the headlights and bonnet remain unchanged, a closer inspection reveals a flatter, satin-finished Hyundai logo replacing the previous 3D chrome emblem.

On the sides, the updated Nios is distinguished primarily by its new design for the 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. However, the rear styling receives more noticeable enhancements. The boot lid undergoes a reprofiling, but the standout feature is the reshaped taillights connected by a band—a trending design element. Although the tail lamps incorporate LED elements, the band is a mere reflector and does not illuminate. Overall, these visual updates undoubtedly enhance the appeal of the Grand i10 Nios.

Interior, Features, Safety

Inside, there are fewer alterations. Brighter hues, fresh upholstery, and a new instrument cluster featuring analogue dials (replacing the previous digital speedometer) enhance the appearance of the practical and well-designed interior. Elevated seating, strategically positioned touchscreen, and ample storage continue to ensure immediate comfort in the Grand i10 Nios.

In higher-spec variants, the Grand i10 Nios comes fully equipped. Features such as keyless entry, push-button start, automatic climate control, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, and rear AC vents are standard in the top-spec Asta trim. Notable additions include a Type-C USB charging port and cruise control, with a noteworthy comprehensive safety equipment list.

Front, side, and curtain airbags are standard across the range. Advanced safety features like electronic stability control, hill start assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, and ISOFIX child-seat mounts exceed regulatory standards. Additionally, the rear cabin retains its spaciousness for two occupants, while the 260-litre boot offers ample space for luggage.

Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Facelift: Engine and Gearbox

In its latest update, Hyundai has streamlined the engine options for the Grand i10 Nios. Last year, the diesel variant was discontinued, and the Turbo variant with the spirited 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine has also been removed from the lineup. As a result, the 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine stands as the sole offering, available with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT, along with a CNG derivative.

The engine has been updated to comply with upcoming RDE (real-world driving emission) norms and can run on E20 petrol, which contains a 20 per cent ethanol blend. In terms of driving experience, there is no discernible difference. The engine remains refined and smooth, providing adequate power for urban driving. While it may lack the lively responsiveness of Maruti's K12 1.2 petrol engine, it fulfils its purpose efficiently.

The Grand i10 Nios excels as a city car thanks to its light steering, easy manoeuvrability, and comfortable ride. The optional AMT enhances convenience, although the standard 5-speed manual gearbox is also user-friendly. Despite a slight price increase, the Grand i10 Nios maintains its position between the more budget-friendly Tata Tiago and the pricier Maruti Suzuki Swift, offering AMT options and CNG versions.

Pricing Details of the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios

The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios presents an attractive proposition for budget-conscious buyers seeking a feature-rich and practical hatchback. When it comes to ex-showroom pricing, the Grand i10 Nios range starts at an affordable Rs. 5.84 lakh for the base Era variant, while the top-of-the-line Asta AMT variant commands a premium of Rs. 8.51 lakhs (ex-showroom).

However, when factoring in on-road costs, the Grand i10 Nios becomes even more accessible, with the price range spanning from Rs. 6.33 lakhs for the base Era variant to Rs. 9.56 lakhs for the top-end Asta AMT variant (on-road, Delhi).

The Grand i10 Nios lineup comprises several variants to cater to diverse needs and budgets. The base Era variant is the entry point into the Grand i10 Nios ownership experience, with an on-road price of Rs. 6.33 lakhs in Delhi. For those seeking the ultimate features and convenience, the top-end Asta AMT variant commands a premium of Rs. 9.56 lakhs (on-road, Delhi).

Additionally, Hyundai offers a CNG variant for buyers prioritising low running costs, with prices ranging from Rs. 8.44 lakhs to Rs. 9.05 lakhs (on-road, Delhi). Furthermore, the Grand i10 Nios automatic variants cater to those seeking seamless urban driving, with on-road prices starting from Rs. 8.31 lakhs and extending to Rs. 9.56 lakhs in Delhi.
