The Chhattisgarh State Commission for Women (CSCW) on Monday ordered a probe to know if some women officials of the Ambikapur Central Jail in Surguja district made obscene videos of women prisoners and then blackmailed them.
The CSCW Chairperson constituted a two-member team to investigate.
CSCW Chairperson Dr. Kiranmayee Nayak told team members Neeta Vishwakarma and Archana Upadhyay to visit the prison and submit a detailed report within seven days, an official communication said.
The team will visit Ambikapur on June 28.
Nayak took suo moto cognizance of a media report to order the probe. The Superintendent of Police, Surguja, was also asked to investigate and send a report in seven days.
The relatives of the women prisoners on June 24 submitted a complaint to the State Human Rights Commission, Home Secretary, the Director General of Jails and the Surguja about the "inhuman acts" on the women prisoners.
The complaint stated that two women employees of the jail prepared obscene videos of the prisoners. They then seek money by threatening them to upload the video on social media. The complaint sought action against the employees.
