Reiterating the district administration's refusal to allow private schools to monopolise the sale of books and uniforms, Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh on Thursday issued a stern warning to schools failing to comply.
Ahead of the forthcoming admission season, Singh said schools and colleges pressuring parents to buy uniforms or books will have to face criminal proceedings.
The orders are part of the administration's efforts to break the monopoly of schools and booksellers over curriculum and uniforms.
The order states that pressure to buy educational materials leads to dissatisfaction among parents and creates a tense atmosphere in schools. Therefore, a prohibitory order has been enforced under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973.
The order applies to all private schools under the MP Board, CBSE, and ICSE. School operators must, before the start of the new academic session, display a list of books taught in each class, including the name of the author and publisher, along with their prices, on the school’s notice board. The list should also be made available to students upon request.
