Chhattisgarh Governor Vishwabhushan Harichandan said on Sunday that India is a garland of many colours and cultures.
“Every state has its own separate identity. Despite our diversity, we are all one, this gives credibility in the world,” he said.
"Our cultural diversity enriches and empowers us,” he said.
He said this in Raipur to celebrate the foundation of 17 states and Union Territories.
The programme was held on the theme ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’. An initiative of the Indian Government encouraging the celebration of the foundation days of other states in order to promote unity and diversity.
At the programme, Harichandan presented mementoes to the representatives of various states. He also honoured the Padma Shri awardees of Chhattisgarh.
Harichandan praised the specialties of the states including the rich natural resources of Chhattisgarh, the IT sector in Tamil Nadu, Kerala’s lead in social justice, health status and gender equality, Punjab's history and more.
A colourful presentation of cultural programmes and folk traditions of many states was presented.
