Haryana Health and Family Welfare Minister Anil Vij on Friday said that the dress code will soon be applicable to all staff working in government health facilities of Haryana and it will now be mandatory for every employee to wear proper uniform.

Stating that the designing of the uniform is in the final stage,  Vij said he had recently given direction to make uniforms mandatory in all medical facilities of Haryana. Giving the example of private hospitals, Vij said that when you go to a private hospital, not a single employee is seen without a uniform, while in a government hospital, it is difficult to differentiate between a patient and an employee. He said that the dress code will improve the functioning of the hospital.

Talking to Reporters, the minister said the dress code is an essential component that gives a professional touch to the organisation and a well-followed policy in a hospital not only gives the employee  professional image but also presents an elegant image among the public. The purpose of the dress code policy is to maintain discipline, uniformity and equality among staff, he added.

All hospital staff working in clinical, cleanliness & sanitation, security, transport; technical, kitchen, and field would be in proper uniform during working hours and employees looking after non-clinical administrative work in the hospital shall wear only formal (No jeans or T-shirts). Both male and female employees should adhere to the dress code without fail and non-adherence shall lead to disciplinary action. The employee shall be marked absent for that day, he added.

Vij said that funky hairstyles, heavy jewelry, accessories, makeup, and long nails during working hours are unacceptable, especially in health facilities centres. He added that Name of the employee and designation shall be mentioned on the uniform name plate tag. Black pants with a white shirt along with nameplate tag shall be worn by any trainee of the respective designation except for the nursing cadre, he added.

The minister said Jeans in any color, denim skirts and denim dresses are not considered professional dresses and are not permitted. Sweatshirts, sweatsuits, shorts are not permitted. Slacks, dresses, skirts and palazzos shall not be permitted. T-shirts, Stretch T-shirt/ stretch pants, fitting pants, leather pants, Capri, sweatpants, tank tops, see-through dresses/tops, crop tops, off-shoulder dresses, sneakers, slippers etc. are not permitted.
