The State Agriculture and Farmer Welfare minister Ganesh Joshi said that the demand of millets produced in Uttarakhand is quite high in the domestic and international markets, given the rich presence of nutrients in them and their superior quality. He said this during a departmental review meeting held in the Uttarakhand Council for Biotechnology (UCB) premises in Haldi, Pantnagar. He further said that the State government has been taking all possible steps to boost millet production. He dwelt in detail on various types of millets produced in the State which, being nutrient-rich, enhance health of the consumers. Speaking on the occasion, the director of UCB Sanjay Kumar said that his institute has been imparting training and technical guidance to the millet farmers and self-help groups engaged in millet farming. He further said that UCB has been hosting exhibitions and festivals to boost millet demand and production.
