De-affiliation decision leaves students, colleges in the lurch

Friday, 23 June 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The decision of the HNB Garhwal central university Srinagar to de-affiliate 10 aided colleges has created a situation of uncertainty in the academic world of Uttarakhand. The decision was taken in a recent meeting of the executive council of the university. The colleges which have been removed from the affiliation of the university include DAV PG college, DBS PG college, MKP PG college, SGRR PG college, DWT college ( all Dehradun), MKP College Mussoorie, Chinmay College Haridwar and Rath college Paithani, Pauri. The decision of the university means that these colleges would now have to get affiliation from some other university at a time when the process of admissions is going on. It is pertinent to mention here that these colleges were to take the score of the Combined University Entrance Test  (CUET) for the admissions in the academic session 2023-24 and the students were waiting for the result of the entrance examination. The sudden decision of the university to de affiliate the college has come as a shock for both the students and the administration of these colleges.

The Principal of the DAV PG college which is the biggest PG college of the State,  K R Jain told The Pioneer that the decision is not in the interest of the students. He said that the process to get affiliation from a new university takes at least six months and the decision to de-affiliate was taken at a time when the college was preparing to take admission. Questioning the motive behind the decision, he said that there are 5320 seats in UG and PG courses in the DAV PG College and more than 25000 students apply for admission in the college.

The national vice president of the All India unaided universities and colleges association Sunil Agarwal told this correspondent that the government should clear the uncertainty prevailing over the admissions in the aided colleges.
