Chandigarh MC cracks down on unauthorized Vendors

Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh cracked down on unauthorized vendors in the city and impounded several “Theka” rehris from around the city on Wednesday. Following the directions of Anindita Mitra, Commissioner, MCC, the enforcement teams impounded Theka coffee & shakes rehris from across the city. The Municipal Commissioner took serious note of the violations by the unauthorized operations running across the city under the brand name “Theka”, in the city and impounded some of these rehris and directed the enforcement staff to act tough against such violators in future. She further directed that after impounding the rehris, legal action also be initiated against the unauthorized vendors. Keeping in view the festive season, the Commissioner directed the staff concerned to keep the V-3 roads clear from all unauthorized vending and proper vigil be kept in the cycle tracks, where these rehris are seen frequently.

CM Khattar to inaugurate Balramji Das Tandon Memorial Cricket Tournament

Chandigarh, The third edition of the Balramji Das Tandon Memorial Boys Under-16 Multi-Day Cricket Tournament will be played from October 19 to November 1 and will be inaugurated by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar at DAV College, Sector 10. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, UT Cricket Association President Sanjay Tandon said that ten teams from nine cricket boards are participating in this BCCI-approved tournament. This includes two teams from Chandigarh while others are Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Goa, Delhi, J&K, Mizoram, Himachal Pradesh and Jharkhand. The tournament will be played across five venues in the tricity - DAV College, Sector 10, Baba Balak Nath Cricket Academy and Cricket Institute of Chandigarh at Kaimbala and two grounds at Launching Pads, Mohali. Each match will last for two days with 90 overs being bowled each day.

Jauramajra felicitates family members of martyr soldiers of Op Pawan

Chandigarh: Punjab Freedom Fighter, Defence Services Welfare Minister Chetan Singh Jauramajra on Wednesday honoured family members or dependents of martyrs of Operation Pawan during a felicitation ceremony organized by the government at Maharaja Ranjit Singh War Museum, Ludhiana. Recalling the stellar role of Armed forces in preserving the country’s unity, integrity and sovereignty, he said that the Indian Armed Forces have a glorious tradition of remaining on the forefront for defending the unity and sovereignty of the country besides guarding its borders while performing their duty.

British Deputy High Commissioner in Chandigarh meets Patiala DC to promote sports

Patiala: British Deputy High Commissioner Caroline Rowett on Wednesday met with Patiala Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney to discuss various matters with a focus on sports. During the meeting, they explored the potential for a partnership between British sports universities and Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University, aimed at facilitating the exchange of best practices. Sawhney informed Rowett that the Sports Department is in the process of establishing a sports nursery in Ghanaur area, with an estimated cost of approximately Rs one crore. Rowett also commended the Chief Minister’s initiative, ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Dian’, besides expressing her enthusiasm for the forthcoming sports nurseries in Patiala.

PCI team on 3-day visit to Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh

Chandigarh: An official five-member team, representing the Press Council of India (PCI), which is on a three-day visit of the states of Punjab, Chandigarh (UT), and Haryana to address the concerns of the journalists, held a meeting with the officials of the Information and Public Relations (IPR) Department, Punjab, on Wednesday. The PCI delegation, led by its convenor Vinod Kohli, met Punjab’s IPR secretary Malwinder Singh Jaggi and director Bhupinder Singh and others, to discuss the implementation of PCI guidelines and recommendations aimed at improving the working conditions and safety of journalists.

 AAP Govt bleeding Punjab’s rural health infra: BJP

Chandigarh: BJP national spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill on Wednesday said that ever since AAP has assumed power, the health sector, particularly rural healthcare, has all but collapsed in Punjab. Expressing extreme dismay over the government’s shoddy functioning in the health sector, Shergill said that rural dispensaries, considered to be the backbone of rural healthcare, are in shambles and are without even basic medicines. “Urban health system also portrays a sorry state of affairs. AAP government’s tall claims with regards to providing health facilities are all a sham. The ground reality is completely different”, he said, while expressing his anger over the government’s miserable failure to cater to the basic health requirements of the people of the state.
 
Ban on postings and transfers of officials during Municipal bye-elections in Hry

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal on Wednesday issued a directive to all Administrative Secretaries and Heads of Departments, instructing them not to transfer officers and officials involved in the upcoming bye-elections in five municipal wards. These wards include Ward No. 15 of Municipal Council, Sohna, District Gurugram; Ward No. 01 of Municipal Council, Kaithal; Ward No. 16 of Municipal Council, Narnaul, District Mahendragarh; Ward No. 05 of Municipal Committee, Rajound, District Kaithal; and Ward No. 11, Municipal Committee, Bawal, District Rewari. This ban on transfers will remain in effect until the declaration of results for these elections. The polls are scheduled to be held on November 5. The directive further states that in cases where the transfer of an officer/official involved in these elections is deemed necessary, prior written approval from the State Election Commission is required.
