Former Pb MLA, husband arrested in DA case
Chandigarh: Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Monday took former MLA Satkar Kaur Gehri and her husband Jasmail Singh Gehri into custody in connection with a case involving disproportionate assets. The arrests followed an extensive vigilance enquiry conducted by the authorities. A spokesperson for Punjab Vigilance said the investigation revealed a significant disparity between the couple’s accumulated assets and their known sources of income during Satkar Kaur Gehri’s tenure as a member of the Legislative Assembly. “During the period under scrutiny, her total income from various sources amounted to Rs 1,65,34,053, while their total expenditures during the same time-frame totaled Rs 4,49,19,831. Consequently, their expenditures exceeded their income by Rs 2,83,85,778.41, representing an alarming disproportionate increase of 171.68 per cent,” he added.

Punjab Human Rights panel takes cognizance of student’s mysterious death in Patiala
Chandigarh: Taking suo motu cognizance, the Punjab State Human Rights Commission on Monday ordered an inquiry into the mysterious death of a girl student, Jashandeep Kaur, from Punjabi University, Patiala. The Commission, headed by PSHRC chairperson Justice Sant Parkash and member Justice Nirmaljit Kaur, called for a detailed report from Patiala SSP to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. Protests broke out at the varsity after the demise of Jashandeep Kaur, a student at Punjabi University, after she was brought back home from the university hostel under mysterious circumstances. The report raised questions about the circumstances of her death, particularly considering her underlying health condition as an asthmatic individual.
Hry CS reviews developmental projects
Chandigarh: Following a comprehensive review meeting of development projects worth more than Rs 100 crore, Haryana Chief SecretarySanjeev Kaushal on Monday said that work on 21 projects in 13 departments, costing Rs 8076.93 crore, is progressing on time. Three projects of Urban Local Bodies department, costing Rs 455.14 crore, have been completed. The Chief Secretary said that the projects are progressing on schedule including five projects of Urban Local Bodies, four projects each in Town and Country Planning as well as the Public Works (B&R) and Architecture, and two projects dedicated to the Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, and 1 project each in the Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Cooperation, Industries and Commerce, Irrigation and Water Resources, Medical Education and Research, and Public Health Engineering Departments.
