The 132nd birthday of Bharat Ratna Babasaheb, was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fan-fare at AIIMS Bhopal. The Chief Guest on the occasion was honourable Director of AIIMS Bhopal Prof. (Dr) Ajai Singh. Other dignitaries who graced the occasion were Deputy Director Administration Col. (Dr) Ajit Kumar and Dean Research Prof (Dr) Debashish Biswas, Prof Shyam Lal Chairperson of the SC/ST Employees Grievance Redressal Committee & Dr E Jayashankar Liaison Officer SC/ST, AIIMS Bhopal.

On this holy occasion our director garlanded the portrait of Baba Saheb in LT-4 and lighted the candle. Thereafter he addressed the gathering of faculty, nursing staff, administrative staff, students and families. The Director AIIMS Bhopal administered an oath to all the members present that we all must endeavour to imbibe the teaching of Dr Ambedkar in our personal and professional lives.

Dr Ajai Singh enumerated the exemplary life of Baba Saheb and shared his thoughts on various aspects of the life of Dr Ambedkar. He also highlighted that Baba Saheb fought all his life to provide us equal rights in all spheres of life to all strata of society, but we should always remember our duties and responsibilities whenever we think about our rights.

Dr Ajit Kumar and Prof Biswas also shared their thoughts on this occasion and emphasised on how the teachings and path showed by Baba Saheb is so relevant for the building of a society and a nation.

The program was further enriched by our in-house speakers namely Prof Shyam Lal, Prof Surya Bali, Prof Vaishali Walke, Prof. Santosh Wakode, Dr E Jayshankar and Dr Abhijit Pakhare. All speakers touched upon various social, educational and health related gaps present in our country.

The patterns governing such inequalities were also highlighted and how Baba Saheb had envisioned the alleviation of these problems nearly 100 years ago. The audience was enthralled by the speakers and the function ended by vote of thanks by Dr Santosh Wakode. Dr Prashant Chaware thanked all those who were present in large numbers and distributed sweets and snacks.
