BAU gets new KVK in Hazaribagh

In a huge success for Birsa Agriculture University (BAU), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) gave permission to set up Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Goriakarma in Hazaribagh district. With the approval Jharkhand will have seventeenth KVK under BAU control.

BAU Vice-Chancellor (VC), Dr Omkar Nath Singh was continuously trying for about one and a half years for the establishment of KVK in Ranchi and Hazaribagh district. As a result of his foresight and Bhagirathi efforts, seventeenth KVK under BAU control is going to be established in Hazaribagh district with the courtesy of ICAR.

ICAR, New Delhi, a Government of India undertaking, has granted permission to BAU to set up KVK at Mojakjara village (Goria Karma) under Barhi block in Hazaribagh district . The order to this effect has been received by the BAU management on Friday through the Under Secretary, Agriculture Extension, ICAR, New Delhi.
ICAR has approved the establishment of a KVK under the administrative control of BAU with selected 20 hectares of land at village Goria Karma. This center will get financial assistance from ICAR on 100 per cent basis. The implementation of all the functions and programs of this center will be restricted to the terms and conditions mentioned in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between ICAR-BAU.

Grant-in-aid, expenditure statement and audit utilization certificate report and others will be done by BAU on the basis of detailed terms and conditions of ICAR/GFR 2017. The pay scale of all the scientists and employees of the center will be decided by the concerned State Agricultural University (SAU) and grant receiving institution. The liability of ICAR in respect of pay and allowances will be limited to the scale of pay prescribed for KVK. A total of sixteen posts have been created and approved in the centre, including seven scientists and nine employees, including the head.

This center will be under the control of Directorate of Extension Education of BAU and recruitment process will be started early by following ICAR guidelines regarding pay scale, discipline and qualification in consultation with Director, ICAR- Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI.

VC, Singh has thanked the ICAR Director General, Deputy Director General and others for the permission to open the seventeenth Agricultural Science Center under the control of BAU. He has described the establishment of KVK in Hazaribagh district as a unique gift of ICAR to the State and farmers and a boon for the farmers and helpful in speeding up agricultural development through agricultural research and extension in the district. He informed that the establishment of KVK in the state has encouraged local appropriate technology and speeded up agricultural development in all the districts. Under the guidance of scientists of the Center, innovative technology and various farmer-friendly programs of the Central and State Governments have been strengthened, he added.
