The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating into the train tragedy at Bahanaga in Baleswar district on June 2, on Friday arrested three railway officials in connection with the mishap.
The arrested were identified as Senior Section Engineer Arun Kumar Mahanta, Section Engineer Muhammad Amir Khan and Technician Papu Kumar, sources said.
They were arrested under Sections 304 and 201 of IPC.
Following their arrest they were taken to the Capital Hospital from the CBI office here before their production in a CBI court.
The CBI had earlier raided and sealed the rented house of Khan at Soro in Baleswar district and grilled him in connection with the mishap. The agency had also questioned Bahanaga Bazar Station Master SP Mohanty.
The CBI took over the investigation from Government Railway Police (GRP) soon after the Railway Board sent a recommendation in this connection to the Central Government.
CBI sleuths went to the spot several times and sealed the Bahanaga Bazar railway station as part of their investigation. CBI officials also seized the mobile phones of some railway employees to collect detailed information on the call records, WhatsApp calls and social media chats of some railway employees.
Notably, as many as 294 passengers were killed and about 1,000 others injured in the mishap involving the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express, a stationary goods train and the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express near the Bahanaga Bazar railway station.
