Azad Samaj Party leader shot dead over petty dispute

Bhim Army party leader was shot dead in Jaisinghpur village of Talagram area of Kannauj district over a petty dispute on Thursday.

As per reports, the accused barged into the house of Azad Samaj Party general secretary Bantu Singh Katheria and brutally murdered him by shooting him in the head. Assailants also opened fire on Bantu Singh’s family members.

Bantu, a resident of Jaisinghpur village, was in a dispute with his own uncle, Surajpal. The two families had previously confronted each other over a water related dispute.

On Thursday morning, the two families again involved in some argument over release of water at the tube well. Miffed over this, Surajpal entered Bantu’s house and started firing bullets at the family members. He then fired at Bantu’s head from point blank range.

Bantu’s brother, Ankit,  said that he was having an old dispute with his uncle Surajpal, due to which his uncle and two other people had come to the house and killed his brother. Superintendent of Police, Amit Kumar Anand, Assistant Superintendent of Police Arvind Kumar and Circle Officer (City) Priyanka Bajpai reached the spot with heavy police force.

Initially, agitated family members initially did not allow the police to send the body for post-mortem.  They only allowed the legal proceedings to proceed after the police assured them of the accused’s early arrest. A case has been registered, and efforts are underway to apprehend the accused.

Meanwhile, in the Surendranagar area of Quarsi police station limits in Aligarh, a man, identified as Gaurav, threw his wife, Gauri, off the roof in front of their children after she objected to his drinking alcohol. The children raised an alarm, and neighbours responded to their call, but the man managed to escape. The victim died before being shifted to the hospital.

On receiving information about the incident, police officers reached the spot. The Civil Lines Police station house officer Ashok Kumar Singh said that there was a domestic dispute between the husband and wife in the  Surendra Nagar area after which the man killed his wife. He said that they launched a hunt for Gaurav.
