The Orissa High Court has given a judgement that the Holding Tax hike by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is illegal. This is a tight slap to the BMC and the decision to scrap the tax hike has brought relief for the city’s people, said the BJP on Thursday.
Before hiking the tax, the BMC didn’t follow the administrative process. Its anti-people decision was strongly opposed by the BJP by holding agitations. The State Government without listening to the residents’ demand was adamant on putting burden on the people. After the High Court’s decision, the BMC’s anti-people mask has been exposed, said BJP State general secretary Prithviraj Harichandan.
He said that earlier, the BMC forcibly collected Holding Tax. The BMC should return the collected taxes with interest. Besides, stringent action should be taken against the officials who had taken the decision, If the Government doesn’t immediately take any action, the BJP would again hit the streets in the interest of people.
