The Rae Bareli police arrested one Narendra Saini (27) for uploading a video of a burning Tricolour on social media.
Saini was arrested from Shivgarh police station area on charges of insulting the national flag and also under provisions of 7 Criminal Law Amendment Act.
Maharajganj Circle Officer Ram Kishor Singh said that preliminary questioning with the accused revealed that he was frustrated after failing to secure a job and was not doing well in studies. He had a spat with his parents and had also left home but we are still probing the motive behind his act, he added.
“No criminal record has been found of the accused and of his parents yet. He also does not bear allegiance to any political outfit or ideology,” he said.
The accused was staying with his maternal grandparents after he left his house in Bhadokhar police station area three months ago, the police said.
In the wee hours of September 16, the accused had uploaded an objectionable video of burning the Tricolour with a temple in the backdrop.
“Taking cognisance of the video that went viral on social media in the district, the district police chief ordered his immediate arrest,” Singh said.
A team was formed which first reached the residence of the accused and found that he was at his grandparents’ place, said Station House Officer Rakesh Chandra.
Later, a team arrested him from Jagdishpur village under Shivgarh police station.
