Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Odisha Legislative Assembly Bishnu Charan Sethi passed away at the AIIMS, Bhubaneswar on Monday morning. He was 61 and is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Sethi had been admitted in the ICU of the hospital a month back as he was suffering from multiple diseases, including infection in the lungs.
The BJP MLA had also kidney ailment and was undergoing dialysis thrice a week in the hospital, but he died of acute cardiac failure, AIIMS officials informed.
Sethi was elected to the Assembly twice from two different constituencies of his native Bhadrak district. He was first elected from the Chandbali constituency in 2000 and from Dhamnagar in 2019.
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal, Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhushan Harichandan, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Pradesh Congress president Sarat Patnaik expressed deep condolences over the demise of Sethi.
Leader of Opposition, Jaynarayan Mishra (BJP) said Sethi’s death is a huge loss to the party. “There are very few leaders who could speak with a lot of conviction about issues and Shri Sethi was one of them,” said he.
Congress Legislature Party Leader Narasingha Mishra said Sethi would be remembered for his remarkable discussions in the Assembly. “Though we were opposing each other in the political sphere, we used to share a bonding,” he said.
