Community plays a vital role to check an emerging issue like child trafficking, said Superintendent of Police, Bargarh, Smit Parmar after launching a campaign to sensitise villagers on child trafficking on Wednesday at Mandiadhipa Gram Panchayat of Paikmal block.
The police are not against migration but they are to ensure that it should be legal and safe, observed Sri Parmar, while appreciating the role of Anganwadi workers of the blocks who are monitoring the movement of children, pregnant and lactating mothers. Their active role could also go a long way in checking child trafficking, observed Parmar.
Organised by Aide et Action and UNICEF and in collaboration with Bargarh police and Crime Against Women and Children Wing of Crime Branch, Odisha, the meeting witnessed Anganwadi workers, ASHA, Ama Police Samiti members, Gram Panchayat Child Protection Committee members and others deliberating on the issue and finding ways and means to tackle the menace.
While Jyoti Prakash Brahma and Sweta Saha of Aide et Action explained in details about child trafficking and their role in its prevention, Inspector in- charge of Paikmal police station Biswajit Monobodha explained about different provisions of laws relating to migration.
Sarpanch of Mandiadipha panchayat Chandrika Sahu assured to take necessary steps to make the panchayat child friendly and urged the community members to cooperate with her.
