Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday said that the odd-even system for vehicles will be implemented to tackle the crisis of air pollution in Delhi and the adjoining national Capital region (NCR).
“This (pollution) is a serious issue and not a political issue. Just like Corona had to be fought unitedly, we have to be united to fight the problem of air pollution,” the Chief Minister said while talking to the mediapersons in Palwal on the sidelines of a programme.
Khattar said that pollution is due to industries, vehicles among other reasons. Some people have said that stubble burning has also led to rise in pollution levels but incidents of stubble burning have reduced sharply in Haryana this time. The government has also kept a check on such incidents, lodged FIRs against violators, he said.
On steps taken to tackle the problem of air pollution, the Chief Minister said that an engineers’ committee has been constituted in Gurugram to suggest steps to deal with this problem. The closure of all schools, ban on all types of construction in four districts had been announced by the government.
The State Government is following the directions of the Supreme Court. The odd-even system for vehicles will also be implemented, he added.
To curb the rising levels of air pollution in Delhi-NCR, the State Government has decided to impose from next week an odd-even rule in four districts – Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, and Jhajjar.
Under the odd-even scheme, alternate days are marked for vehicles with their number plates ending in odd and even numbers, respectively. Vehicles with registration numbers ending in odd numbers are allowed on the roads on odd days and even-numbered vehicles are allowed on even days.
