The availability of three AMO machines at Bhagwan Mahaveer Medica Superspeciality Hospital will create a new ray of hope for patients suffering from Covid pneumonia and severe lung infection. It will now be possible to treat three patients of Covid pneumonia and severe lung infection simultaneously through ECMO.
Dr Vijay Kumar Mishra, Medical Director cum Critical Care Specialist of Bhagwan Mahaveer Medica Superspeciality Hospital, said that in view of the ever increasing number of patients with Covid pneumonia and severe lung infection, the Medica Hospital management has called for two more ECMO machines. An ECMO machine already exists in the hospital. Now we will be able to try to save the lives of 10 to 15 serious patients every month through all three ACMO machines.
Dr Mishra said the facility of ECMO is available only in Medica Hospital in Jharkhand and Bihar, so there was a lot of pressure on us. Even at times, we could not provide the facility of ECMO to the needy patients. Then we had no choice but to express regret. But now we will be able to try to save the lives of three needy patients at the same time.
Dr Mishra said ECMO is very effective for patients with Covid pneumonia and severe lung infection.
He said ECMO, i.e. Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation, is a life-saving system just like the ventilator. Through this, pure oxygen is transported to the lungs. But the best thing in this system is that when the lungs become inflamed and pneumonia due to corona, then this system works like artificial lungs. Carbon dioxide and oxygen are separated in the ECMO system. It does not allow extra pressure on the lungs, due to which the health of the corona patient starts to improve soon. The state education minister Jagarnath Mahato was also provided with the facility of ECMO.
Anil Kumar, AVP of Medica Hospital, hoped that the three ECMO machines would prove to be a boon for all patients belonging to Jharkhand, Bihar and neighboring states.
Till now we were serving patients with one ACMO machine, but now three ACMO machines will be able to provide better treatment facilities to more patients.
