Even though mystery still shrouds the death of Rama Devi Women’s University student Jharaphula Nayak, some fresh revelations came to the fore on Monday.
A car had chased the two-wheeler on which Jharaphula’s male friend Rakesh Swain and his friend were carrying the girl’s dead body near Rajendrapur in Jajpur district on January 27 morning.
During police interrogation, Rakesh, who was arrested on January 28 for his alleged involvement in the Jharaphula death case, reportedly stated that he and his friend Shekhar carried the girl’s body on the two-wheeler towards Mayurbhanj, Jharaphula’s native district. However, they changed their plan when a car followed them.
The occupants of the car asked him and friend why the young woman’s head was reclined to one side and legs were hanging.
In reply, Rakesh and his friend stated that the girl was unwell while riding the two- wheeler.Once the car moved ahead, Rakesh and his friend decided to dump the body on roadside near Rajendrapur in Jajpur district as they feared of getting caught. Besides, police sources said that when the family members of Jharaphula tried to call the girl on her mobile phone on January 26 evening, she did not pick up.
Instead, Jharaphula continued sending messages to them till late night on January 26.The sources added that Rakesh revealed during the quizzing that he chatted with Jharaphula’s family members posing as Sonali, the girl’s friend till late night.While Rakesh has been arrested his friend, who was driving the two-wheeler, is yet to be nabbed.
Jharaphula Nayak Death: Court Allows Police To Take Accused Rakesh Swain On RemandMeanwhile, the Jajpur District Court on Monday allowed the Kuakhia police to take Jharaphula death case accused Rakesh Swain on remand for three days.
The Kuakhia police had earlier prayed before the court for a five-day remand of the accused. During the remand period, cops are likely to question Rakesh to unearth further details pertaining to the case.
