Interstate bus terminals to come up in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad

State has prepared a Draft Detailed Project Report (DDPR) for construction of interstate bus terminals in three of the busiest cities — Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Dhanbad, sources from the urban development department said on Thursday, claiming that the project may cost around Rs 150 crore.

According to a highly placed government source, the bus terminal in Ranchi will be constructed on a 38 acre land near Ring Road. The terminal will have all modern amenities, including waiting rooms, food court, toilets and dormitories. According to the DDPR, more than 500 buses connecting Ranchi to cities in other states will ply from this bus terminal.

In Jamshedpur, the bus terminal is likely to be constructed on a more than 13 acre land near Dimna-Pardih Road. This terminal is likely to have at least 20 bus ways and accommodate more than 90 buses at a time. This bus terminal too is likely to get all the modern amenities.

The bus terminal in Dhanbad is expected to be constructed on a 13-acre land in Govindpur. According to the DDPR, this bus terminal will have a waiting room with an accommodation capacity of 200 people, over 20 ticket counters and other modern facilities.

While all these three cities already have bus stands from where buses to Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha ply on a regular basis, none of the districts in Jharkhand have a dedicated interstate bus terminal, officials said. According to sources, mostly air-conditioned buses with modern facilities will ply from the new bus terminals, while the existing bus stands will be used for inter-district and city buses.

According to a source in the department, each of these three terminals will also have separate parking areas for autorickshaws, cabs and cars in a bid to prevent traffic congestion. Besides, the location for the bus terminals have been decided keeping in mind that movement of buses does not hinder the city traffic.

In all the three cities, the terminals will be constructed closer to the highway and away from busy urban localities. While passengers will have to cover a longer distance from their homes to reach the bus terminals, the buses will be able to reach highways with minimal movement within city traffic.

At present, Khadgada bus stand in Ranchi, Mango bus stand in Jamshedpur and Dhanbad Bus Depo are the busiest bus stands in the three cities.
