Commenting over Ranchi SP (rural) being made approver in the Remdesivir black-marketing case, the Jharkhand High Court on Thursday said that court doesn’t mean to say that police is helping an accused but it looks quite fishy in the light of the available facts.
The bench of Chief Justice Dr. Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad said this after the court asked the investigating officer of the case whether or not anybody has been made approver in the case.
Jharkhand High Court is monitoring the investigation of this case, which is investigated by the CID of Jharkhand Police. In the previous hearing held on July 2 the court had snubbed CID as to how the IPS Naushad Alam was made approver in this case without prior approval of the court and the CID filed chargesheet without informing the high court. The court had directed investigating officer, ADG Anil Palta supervising the probe and ADG (CID) Prashant Singh to appear before the court.
The court during the hearing today directed the State government to reply to both the issues within a week's time.
Palta remained absent from the hearing citing unavoidable reasons, whereas ADG Singh was present during the hearing conducted through video conferencing. The High Court is monitoring the investigation of the Remdesivir black-marketing case. A special investigation team of CID is investigating the case under supervision of Palta.
The CID submitted the chargesheet against Rajeev Singh and Manish Sinha in Remdesivir black-marketing case. Rajeev Singh, a resident of Kanke Road was arrested by Ranchi police in April for allegedly selling Remdesivir at high cost. Police had recovered Remdesivir from his possession. Another accused Manish Sinha is an employee of Shristhi Hospital. Ranchi SP (Rural) landed in controversy as Singh confessed that he had arranged Remdesivir Alam who wanted this medicine for a person named Guddu. IPS however clarified that he wanted to save the life of a person and he had no intention to support Singh in doing black-marketing of this medicine. Investigation revealed that Remdesivir was allotted for patients Shravan Kumar and Sudhir Minj admitted at Shristhi Hospital. But Manish Sinha passed on that allotted vial of Remdesivir to Rakesh Ranjan; owner of a medicine shop Medicine Plant. Singh procured Remdesivir from Rakesh Ranjan. Both Alam and Rakesh Ranjan were made prosecution witnesses.
