The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is learnt to be holding legal consultation to ascertain that whether the Remdesivir black marketing case investigated by the CID of Jharkhand police can be taken-up for investigation.
The ED is learnt to have obtained the copy of the chargesheet filed by the CID against Rajiv Singh and Manish Kumar, who were arrested by Ranchi police for allegedly selling Remdesivir at the high cost which is the lifesaving medicine for Covid 19. Singh is the main accused of the case. Jharkhand High Court is monitoring the investigation of this case.
However, the High Court often expressed dissatisfaction over the nature and quality of investigation carried by Jharkhand Police.
If the ED takes-up this case then the agency will look into the financial aspect. The investigation will focus whether Singh is the lone person involved in the black-marketing or he is the part of a syndicate that profited money out of illegal sale of this medicine. Notably, in the chargesheet the CID has claimed that the accused made huge money out of the black-marketing. If the ED finds grounds to institute a money laundering probe of this matter it may land IPS and Ranchi rural SP Naushad Alam in trouble.
He was one who had asked Singh to arrange Remdesivir for a person named Guddu. Alam was made an approver of the case. The high court had expressed displeasure over CID for making Alam as approval without approval and knowledge of the high court.
The court had asked as to why IPS should not be presumed as a protector to people indulged in blackmarketing since he purchased medicine from very people.
