The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Jharkhand Police is understood to have submitted the chargesheet against Rajeev Singh and Manish Sinha in the sensational Remdesivir blackmarketing case.
The case is being investigated by a special investigation team headed by the then ADG of CID Anil Palta.
Rajeev Singh is a resident of Kanke Road, who was arrested by Ranchi police in April for allegedly selling Remdesivir; the Covid-19 lifesaving medicine, at high cost. Police had recovered Remdesivir from his possession. Another accused Manish Sinha is an employee of Shristhi Hospital.
Ranchi SP (Rural) Naushad Alam too landed in controversy as Singh confessed that he had arranged Remdesivir for this IPS officer who wanted this medicine for a person Guddu. IPS however clarified that he wanted to save the life of a person and he had no intention to support Singh in doing black-marketing of this medicine. CID legally examined the matter and decided to make the IPS as witness.
Quite interesting, the IPS was made the prosecution witness along with Rakesh Ranjan; owner of a medicine shop, Medicine Plant.
Investigation found that Remdesivir was allotted for patients Shravan Kumar and Sudhir Minj who were admitted at Shristhi Hospital. But Manish Sinha passed on to the owner of the Medicine Plant. From there accused Singh procured it.
Singh was arrested from his residence on April 28 and an FIR was lodged at Kotwali police station. Later on, the CID tookup the investigation under supervision of Jharkhand High Court.
The double bench of Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice Udit Narayan Prasad has been monitoring the investigation. Notably, the high court has been regularly hearing PIL related to preparation and management of Jharkhand government to tackle Covid 19.
During the probe the Jharkhand government transferred Palta from CID to rail police. But after the high court expressed displeasure over the transfer; Jharkhand government informed the court that Palta will continue to head the investigation..
