This actor of Bari in Jajpur district can make the audience laugh as well as cry on stage. He claims to be getting the vision of God while performing on stage be it acting, singing and playing musical instruments like drum and harmonium.
Meet Gopinath of Aliabad village under the Bari block. He says not only he but many artists of Bari lie neglected. Gopinath has acted in a variety of roles in as many as 13 Jatra parties.
Gopinath is presently involved in several awareness drives undertaken by the Government. Gopinath is now 73 years old; yet his artistic prowess knows no bound. He still enjoys a reputation as a stage director in the Bari area. Some writers have started writing about Gopinath as well. "There are many talented artists in our area as well as in the State but they don't find the much needed promotion. Due to the neglect meted out to them the younger generation is not much interested to take to acting," said Gopinath.
