Accused told the police that their maternal uncle infected by Covid 19 is under treatment at Dwarika hospital at Namkum. They were informed by the hospital that the patient requires Remdesivir and it needed to be arranged at any cost. Accused procured six vials of Remdesivir from Kolkata and made online payment of Rs 90000. But before the medicine could arrive; the hospital provided Remdesivir.
“Since they no longer required this medicine; they decided to sell it in the open market so that they could get money they had invested in procuring this injection. Remdesivir has become the most precious medicines that attendants of Covid 19 patients want to purchase at any cost,” said a police official.
One Ranjan Kumar, a resident of Dhurwa contacted them and he agreed to pay Rs 75000 for six vials of Remdesivir. But Ranjan informed police and got them arrested when they came to Birsa Chowk to deliver medicine.
