Thursday, 06 May 2021 | PNS | Ranchi

Ranchi police on Wednesday registered an FIR against two youths who were arrested along with six vials of Remdesivir.

FIR was lodged under sections of IPC besides Drugs and Cosmetic Act.

Nabbed by the police on Tuesday, police alleged that they were illegally trying to sell Remdesivir, the life saving injection widely prescribed in the treatment of Covid 19.

They are expected to be produced before the court on Thursday. Accused identified as Abhishekh Kumar and  Gulsan Kumar are brothers and they are residents of Hawai Nagar locality under Jagannathpur police station area of Ranchi.

They were thoroughly questioned by the police. But, police did  not find any evidence that are part of an organized gang active in black-marketing of Remdesivir.

Accused told the police that their maternal uncle infected by Covid 19 is under treatment at Dwarika hospital at Namkum. They were informed by the hospital that the patient requires Remdesivir and it needed to be arranged at any cost. Accused procured six vials of Remdesivir from Kolkata and made online payment of Rs 90000. But before the medicine could arrive; the hospital provided Remdesivir.

“Since they no longer required this medicine; they decided to sell it in the open market so that they could get money they had invested in procuring this injection. Remdesivir has become the most precious medicines that attendants of Covid 19 patients want to purchase at any cost,” said a police official.

One Ranjan Kumar, a resident of Dhurwa contacted them and he agreed to pay Rs 75000 for six vials of Remdesivir. But Ranjan informed police and got them arrested when they came to Birsa Chowk to deliver medicine.

Earlier, Ranchi police had arrested Rajeev Kumar Singh, a resident of Kanke road for allegedly selling Remdesivir at high price.
