Hemananda daughter files dowry torture plaint

Sunday, 11 October 2020 | MAlAY RAY | SUNDARGARH

After seven months of divorce petition against her by her husband in a family court allegedly for her illicit relation, Sundargarh Congress MLA candidate in last election and daughter of former Chief Minister  and former Sundargarh MP Hemananda Biswal, lodged FIR against her husband and father-in-law for dowry torture in Nayapalli police station in Bhubaneswar.

From her father-in-law's side, an FIR in Sundargarh Town police station too was lodged, mentioning the threat to the life of his son and his family since Hemananda and his daughter were pressurising them to withdraw the divorce petition.

Babula  Dhamel, who works in HAL, Sunabeda, and  Hemananda’s daughter Amita have a seven-year-old daughter. Babula in his divorce petition in Bhubaneswar family court in February had mentioned that Amita had illicit relationship with an MLA of Sundargarh district.

On January 13, 2019, Amita along with their daughter, had left Babula’s home and lived separately.

After seven months of divorce petition by her husband, Amita on September 18 lodged an FIR in Nayapalli police station against her husband and her father-in-law for torturing her for dowry. Nayapalli police reportedly had summoned Babula and his father Kapileswar on October 5. “Hemananda and Amita are pressurising us to withdraw divorce petition. My son has all the evidence in connection to his divorce petition. I feel a threat to the life of my son and my family. Therefore, I have lodged a police complaint,” said Kapileswar.
