Eminent author, publisher and editor Surendra Mohanty passed away in his residence here on Tuesday. He was 78 and is survived by his wife and a son. His son Sibu performed his funeral rites at the Swargadwar.
Several personalities of the writing and cultural domains in the city thronged his house to offer their last respects to him.
Mohanty had started his carrier as a Government employee. Being inspired by Dr Harekrushna Mahtab, he resigned from the job and joined daily ‘Prajatantra’ as correspondent of undivided Koraput district for three decades. Then, he moved to his native Puri and became editor of Odia weekly ‘Samabash’. Besides, he was a regular columnist of ‘Paurusha’ and ‘Pratibha’ magazines. Mohanty has also authored a series of spiritual books and novels.
