Two more patients succumbed to the Covid-19 in Ganjam on Wednesday. With this, the total death toll in the district rose to 46.
The deceased were identified as a 65-year-old man, who was also suffering from diabetes, and another 86-year-old man, who was also suffering from chronic hypertension.
Along with the increasing deaths, coronavirus cases are virtually exploding in the district with as many as 286 positive cases detected on the day. With the new cases, the total tally in the district rose to 4,621 cases.
The district alone reported 46.2 per cent of the total 618 positive cases registered in the entire State on the day. The 286 new cases included 34 Covid warriors, three persons with travel history to other State and 249 persons with active contact with previous positive cases. All the new cases have been shifted to the Covid Hospital, informed officials.
Currently, the number of active cases in the district stands at 1,874, with 2,701 patients having recovered from the disease.
However, on Tuesday, the State Government deputed as many as 100 doctors, along with 30 medical officers (MBBS doctors) for effective management of the pandemic situation which is worsening day by day in the district.
As per reports, along with the 130 doctors, five OAS officers, 47 ORS (Group-B) Officers and 33 laboratory technicians have also been sent to district to combat the situation.
Besides, the district administration has sealed all the roads leading to the district headquarters town of Chhatrapur and entry of all vehicles except those on essential duties have been banned. People are frisked at the checkpoints and those with Identity Cards are being allowed.
