‘Dedicated software for updating electoral data soon’

Minister of Gurdwara Elections Rajendra Pal Gautam on Sunday said that the Information Technology Department will develop dedicated software for the preparation and customization of new photo electoral rolls of Gurdwara wards in the capital for upcoming Gurdwara Elections, 2021.

A Delhi government official said, “For this, the Directorate of Gurdwara Elections has requested the Information Technology Department.”

"Directorate of Gurdwara Elections has also requested the Office of Chief Electoral Officer, to help in matching and verifying the data of electoral rolls of Gurdwara wards with the data of state electoral rolls. This cross-checking will ensure transparency in the preparation of photo electoral rolls for the elections of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee. To expedite the process, the Directorate of Gurdwara Elections will extend the manpower support to the Office of Chief Electoral Officer.”

According to Delhi government officials, the Information Technology Department will develop software as per the requirement of the Directorate of Gurdwara Elections.  “This decision was taken in a meeting held under the Chairmanship of Minister of Gurdwara Elections to discuss various issues relating to the conduct of elections of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and preparation of photo electoral rolls.”

Directorate of Gurdwara Elections conducts the elections of members of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee and the members have a term of four years.

The last general elections were held in February 2017.

The next general elections are to be held in March 2021. Directorate of Gurdwara Elections, Government of NCT of Delhi was established in the year 1974 by an Act of Parliament called the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Act, 1971.
