Roadways strike: UTC officials to talk with employee unions on October 21

Sunday, 20 October 2019 | PNS | Dehradun

To break the deadlock, the officials of Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) have convened a meeting with the representatives of transport unions on October 21. The Uttarakhand Roadways Employees Union (UREU) has stated that even after this meeting, if the UTC does not agree to fulfil its demands, then it would undertake work boycott from the midnight of October 22.

The state general secretary of UREU, Ravinandan Kumar said that their three key demands are to make sure that the employees get their salaries of the month September, the bonus is be paid before Diwali and the pending issues of employees are resolved at division level.

According to senior UTC official, it is proposed that the salary of employees will be released after October 21.

On the issue of  issuing bonus, he opine that since Bonus is given from the profits and the corporation has not been making any profit from last few years, it would be difficult to provide bonus.

The official further stated that this festive season is the peak time for roadways buses to generate maximum revenue. With such crucial time, the decision to boycott work or conduct strike is irrational.

It is pertinent to mention here that regarding the decision to boycott work from October 22, roadways transport unions have contradictory opinions. The UREU and Uttarakhand Roadways Karmchari Union (UKRU) want that the salaries and bonus should be paid before Diwali, while the Karmchari Sanyukt Parishad  believes that the workers should work during the festive season without creating any hurdle and then hold talks with the management.

The general secretary of the Parishad, Dinesh Pant stated that it will be irrational for employees to boycott work during the time which is considered as the peak season for revenue generation.
