Punjab Government on Sunday launched a special month-long campaign to provide unique identity card (UDID) to the Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).
“The purpose of this campaign is to create a database at the State and district level of the persons with disabilities so that they can avail all the facilities without any hardship,” said the state Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Aruna Chauhdary.
She said that with this card, every physically challenged person would be able to get all the facilities on one hand, and on the other hand, he could be mainstreamed at the village, block, district, state and national level.
The Minister said that under this compaign, which will be held from December 1 to 31, the UDID (Unique ID for Persons with Disabilities) are to be provided to persons with disabilities, for which a portal —www.swaviambancard.gov.in — has been created.
Physically challenged persons can register themselves at their personal computer, nearest cyber cafe, village suvidha center, seva center, health center, social security office, in the camps of administration.
Chaudhary said that Persons with Disabilities, having offline certificate issued by the Health Department, can also get this unique identity card. Anyone wishing to get a new disability certificate should contact the nearest senior medical officer or district civil surgeon, she added.
