The Special Cell of the Delhi Police seized a haul of illegal pistols from two persons travelling in a Bolero car. The Bolero bearing Gwalior registration number was supposedly carrying cans of ghee.
The police intercepted the vehicle near Ghazipur in East Delhi and during checking found 28 pistols immersed in ghee.
During interrogation the criminals divulged details about the suppliers, buyers and their general modus operandi.
The duo told the police that they procure local pistols from Bhind at a cost of Rs 10000 each and sell them in Delhi for amounts ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 25000. They also told the police that they came in contact with the notorious arms dealer from Bhind Raju in 2013 and began working for him.
After some time they started their own illegal business of buying and selling pistols.
They also told the police that one Lilly and Prahlad are their local buyers in Delhi. According to the police these pistols are sold to high profile criminals.
Now the Delhi Police are looking for the buyers and planning raids to find out if there are more such buyers.
Speaking to the media persons, DCP Pramod Kushwaha, Special Cell, Delhi Police said that the police had got a tip off that two people from Madhya Pradesh would be arriving at Ghazipur to deliver illegal pistols.
A trap was laid and the police after intercepting the vehicle caught Jeetendra and Raj Bahadur, both residents of Bhind district in Madhya Pradesh.
The DCP added that the pistols and an equal number of magazines were hidden in the cans of ghee. A team of the Special Cell will further question the duo to get more details.
A police party has been sent to Bhind to apprehend Raju, the kingpin of this illegal business.
A case under the Arms Act has been registered at the Ghazipur police station and the past history of the criminals are being checked to find out if they have any connections with the underworld of the national capital.
