In a major decision, Congress government has decided to revert the earlier order issued by Bharatiya Janata Party led government regarding the merger of District Co-Operative banks with Apex Bank of Chhattisgarh.

In a cabinet decision, taken on Tuesday, presided by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel at Mantralaya (Mahanadi Bhawan), it was decided not to merge District Co-Operative Banks with the Apex Bank. Meanwhile, orders had been given in this regard to the Co-Operative Department. Instead, it is being focused to further expand and strengthen the cooperative sector in state.

Agriculture and Water Resources minister Ravindra Choubey on paddy procurement said, “The target for purchasing the paddy on Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the Kharif season  2018-2019 was fixed at 75 lakh Metric tonne. The state government has procured around 80.36 lakh Metric ton paddy. Directives have been given to resolve the issue to deal with the excess procured paddy.”

Choubey further said, “There was a detailed discussion on making amendments in the Land Acquisition and Rehabilitation Act in context to the agricultural land taken back from the Tata Steel at Lohandiguda in Bastar district”.

The government had earlier decided to return the acquired land to the rightful tribal owners of land.
