Five police persons, including a Thana in-charge, two sub inspectors and two constables, were suspended after a youth who was nabbed for questioning in connection with a theft case allegedly committed suicide during interrogation, police said on Monday.
The alleged suicide took political turn when BJP youth wing members on Monday staged a chakka jam with the body of the accused on Ambikapur-Banaras highway.
Notably, on July 11 a businessman who deals in plywood had registered a complaint that cash worth Rs 13 lakh was stolen from his house after Pankaj and Imran had visited his house to install a CCTV camera.
Based on the complaint the two were rounded up by police for questioning.
“They were questioned by police in connection with the theft. Pankaj on the pretext of attending nature’s call went out and later his body was found hanging from window of a private hospital near the cyber cell office,” Superintendent of Police Surguja Ashutosh Singh said.
Taking note of the incident, Inspector General of Police (IG) Surguja KC Agrawal suspended TI Vineet Dubey, SI Manish Yadav, SI Priyansh John, Constable Deendayal and Constable Lakshman Ram.
Meanwhile, police going by the short postmortem report said that Pankaj had committed suicide.
