Telecom services in Cuttack city were severely hit after a major fire broke out at the third floor of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) office at Bajrakabati Road here on Friday afternoon.
A person was injured after a glass pane of the office burst due to the fire. BSNL employees in the building were panicked as the flame and smoke engulfed the floor.
Five fire tenders with about 40 fire personnel swung into action to control the fire before it could spread to other floors of the building. The reason behind the mishap was yet to be ascertained. However, an electric short circuit was suspected to be the cause.
Eyewitnesses said that employees were in the office when the fire broke out. However, all safely ran out of the building. The blaze was so huge that smoke covered the entire building. Computers and many important files were believed to have been gutted in the fire.
