Raipur district collector Dr. S. Bharatidasan on Saturday inspected the ‘Kisan-Upbhokta Bazaar’ (Farmer-Consumer-Market) constructed at Krishi Upaj Mandi, Pandri, Raipur.
At the market farmers can sell their produce directly to the consumers at a better price while consumers can also obtain fruits and vegetables at reasonable price. The building for the market is ready and will soon be dedicated to the public.
A team of district officials led by District collector inspected the centre.
As per information, the main concept behind the commercial market is to eliminate the middlemen, so that farmers can sell their produce as per their convenience directly to the consumers on appropriate market price, thus benefiting both, farmers and consumers. It is expected that it will help maintain a stable price for produce.
The market has facilities like drinking water, toilet, vehicle parking, canteen, Farmer Information Centre, storage facilities, collection of waste vegetables and fertilizer production. The farmers who will sell their produce in the market will be given identity cards. They will be allocated space on first-cum-first basis daily.
A committee constituted by the district administration for 24-hours will fix the maximum price. The farmers can sell vegetables and fruits based on the quality below the maximum price. The sale period will be from 8.00 am to 11.00 am. The Agriculture produce market officials said that till date around 140 farmers have registered for the market.
Collector directed the officials to prepare rules for the parking and other arrangements to ensure smooth functioning.
He also inspected the wholesale fruit-vegetables, potato-onion-garlic shop cum godown constructed at village Tulsi-Baradera on the outskirts of Raipur city.
