Under Jal Shakti Abhiyan sponsored by the Union government, various public awareness programmes and water conservation related activities will be undertaken in Dharsinwa block of Raipur and Gurur block of Balod district in the state.
These two blocks have specially been earmarked by the Center to conduct water conservation related activities under the two-and-half- month long programme to be continued till September 15.
In the same spree, Joint Secretary in government of India, Rabindra Agrawal convened an important meeting at Red Cross auditorium here at Collectorate premises on Thursday to review the ongoing works under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan.
Official sources informed that the Union government had earmarked 257 places across the country, which are facing the problem of depleting ground water level. Dharsinwa and Gurur of the state are among them. Various activities are planned in this rainy season to upgrade the water level in these two regions.
Official sources further informed that ground water recharge, water conservation and water harvesting, rejuvenation of water bodies, works related to watershed and plantation drive are among such programmes which would be conducted till September 15 so that people residing in these two areas do not face the water crisis in future.
