Accusing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government of involving in several cases of ‘corruption’ in the name of combating pollution in the national Capital, Delhi Congress president Subhash Chopra sought a CBI enquiry to probe the charges.
Addressing the media, Chopra said the AAP Government has been involved in corruption in purchasing and distribution of masks among school children and then providing financial benefits being extended to AAP volunteers by deploying them during ongoing odd even scheme to manage traffic.
He said the AAP Government collected Rs 1174.67 Crore from the people as “Green Tax” since 2015 and spent only Rs 272.51 crore so far. Out of which Rs 265 crore were spent at the orders of the Supreme Court for the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), he said.
“The Government spent just seven crore for repairing of various roads in Delhi for controlling pollution which was a big scam as the Delhi Government has no account of the expenses incurred. Also, around Rs 400 crores were lying with the Central Government and there is no information about that fund either,” he added.
Citing a data, he said 63,142 children had died due to air pollution in 2017. “According to available statistics, 58 children face death every day in Delhi due to pollution.
Despite this, the BJP Government at the Centre and the AAP Government in Delhi have not taken effective measure to control pollution in the Capital,” he said.
Party chief spokesperson Mukesh Sharma alleged that the AAP Government spent Rs 10 crore in distributing masks among school children studying in 6 to 12 standard. Questioning the basis on which the masks were purchased and distributed, the Congress
leader said that there were doubts about the manner in which the masks were purchased and distributed. He demanded a high-level probe to unravel the truth.
