Ayurveda students protest misbehaviour by Acharya Balkrishna

Tuesday, 03 December 2019 | PNS | Dehradun

The students of the private Ayurveda colleges organised a march against the alleged misbehaviour with fellow students by Acharya Balkrishna at Patanjali Ayurveda College here on Monday.

The students raised slogans against Baba Ramdev and Balkrishna for not following the High Court(HC) order on the fee refund. The students were particularly agitated on Balkrishna for threatening and misbehaving with the students when they went to meet him recently.

The agitating students said that the Uttarakhand High Court in its order had directed the private colleges to refund the excess fee charged and both the state government and the University has directed the colleges including Patanjali to follow the orders of the court. They claimed that when the students recently met Balkrishna, he misbehaved with them and refused to accept the HC order. It is pertinent to mention here that the Uttarakhand government in the year 2015 had released a Government Order (GO) for increase in fees of the private Ayurveda Colleges of the state. This GO was issue without necessary recommendation of the fee fixation committee and was implemented from back date in gross violation of all norms.  On July 2018, the HC cancelled the GO and directed that the increased fee should be refunded within 15 days.

The private colleges challenged this order but on October 9, 2018, a bench of HC upheld the earlier decision of single bench. Last month the students launched a massive agitation after which the state government assured that the private colleges would have to follow the orders of the HC within a month.

The State administration also assured that the management of these colleges would not harass the students after they return to their respective colleges after ending their agitation.

The students are now claiming that the colleges are harassing them and cite behaviour of Balkrishna as an example the harassment they are facing. They are now threatening to restart their agitation.
