Demanding an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a custodial death case of a 19-year-old in Faridkot, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday asked the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to resign in the capacity of the state’s Home Minister.
At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has declared to visit Faridkot on Monday, where the family members of the deceased were sitting on a dharna in front of the SSP office alleging that the youth was tortured to death in the lock-up, and demanding registration of a murder case against the five cops.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and the Leader of Opposition in Vidhan Sabha Harpal Singh Cheema demanded a CBI investigation into the entire incident of a death of young boy Jaspal Singh in the police custody and then disposing of his body.
Also lashing out at the Chief Minister while demanding his resignation as the Home Minister, Cheema said that a shocking incident has took place in Faridkot where a young boy was
mysteriously died in the police custody and his body was disposed of in a canal, following which the involved police officer Narinder Singh also committed a suicide, but the Chief Minister’s “irresponsible” attitude is not only condemnable but also shameful.
Cheema said that the law and order situation in the state is similar to that during the previous government, “but it is getting worse every day. A major part of the police machinery is uncontrollable, the people are wandering door-to-door for justice, but the ‘Maharaja’ is busy in his revelry”.
“Due to all this, Capt Amarinder Singh should immediately resign as the Home Minister and hand over this important responsibility to any other competent Minister who can keep the disobedient police system in discipline and make it accountable,” he said.
Cheema said that the Congress and the Badals have politicised the Punjab Police since a long time.
“There is tremendous political pressure on the police administration for the self and political interests, and a major faction of this politicised police, which is ready to take the law into the hands for their political masters, has become a gang in itself and this Faridkot incident is the result of the same,” he alleged.
Demanding a government job for en eligible member of the deceased’s family, Cheema questioned why till date no representative of the Government or the ruling Congress party has met the Jaspal’s family which is staging a protest.
