nTo make Chhattisgarh filariasis free, a random survey is being conducted in which around 71 children in Raipur district have tested positive for the parasitic disease.
The health department, after the finding, has issued alert.
According to information, the Chirayu team (medical assistance scheme for children) conducted filarial test of 2737 children in 71 selected schools in Raipur district. The test was positive in 71 children.
The health department has commenced medication for all the affected children after the detection. The team is also visiting the family members of affected children and their neighbourhood in search of the possible patients by holding camps.
According to district malaria officer Dr Vimal Kishore Roy the primary test had detected the children have the filarial roundworms. Around 11 teams have been asked to monitor the situation and also control the water-borne diseases.
He further said in Raipur district in four blocks of Abhanpur-based 12 schools 9 children tested positive, 16 tested positive in Arang, 23 in Tilda, 6 in Dharsiwa and 17 children tested positive in capital city and Birgaon Municipal Corporation limits based 23 schools.
Apart from Raipur district, the survey was also done in 49 selected government and private schools in Baloda Bazar, 79 in Gariaband and 73 in Mahasamund.
