Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday again challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a debate on the issue of corruption.
He shared a clip of Modi’s interview to a TV channel on Twitter in which the Prime Minister is seen asking the reporter if she believed the Supreme Court verdict on Rafale fighter jet deal with France.
“You can run Mr Modi but you can’t hide. Your karma is about to catch up with you. The country can hear it in your voice,” Rahul tweeted. “Truth is a powerful thing. I challenge you to a debate on corruption,” he said.
Rahul had first challenged Modi for a debate on national security, corruption and foreign policy on April 2 while addressing a gathering at Congress’s manifesto release event at the party headquarters. The opposition party has repeatedly criticised the new Rafale deal signed by the Modi government, claiming it is costlier than the one negotiated by the UPA and there is corruption involved.
The Congress has also accused Modi of helping businessman Anil Ambani make a profit of Rs 30,000 crore by favouring him as the offset partner in the deal.
The Government has denied any wrongdoing in the fighter jet agreement. Ambani has also strongly rejected all allegations.
Rahul also took to social media to announce if voted to power, his party will introduce a single-window system for education loans and bring a law that will “list the rights and duties of students”.
In a Facebook post, Rahul Gandhi asserted that a Congress Government will ensure free education to all students from Class 1 to 12 in government schools in the country.
He said the Congress will restore the independence and autonomy of colleges and universities and will open new state-run varsities in backward areas of the country to ensure the expansion of the education sector.
“We feel that education empowers a child and it should be made available to all children. The Congress promises to ensure free and compulsory education to all in government schools from Class 1 to 12. We will raise the budget on education to 6 per cent of GDP,” he said in another post. Rahul also said a Congress government will waive outstanding interest on old education loans prior to March 31, 2019.
On the other hand, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra too took to twitter to express her solidarity with the farmers of Uttar Pradesh whose crop has been destroyed by hail and unseasonal rain. “Hail and unseasonal rains have destroyed farmers crop in thousands of acres of land in Uttar Pradesh. Farmers have suffered a lot because of this natural calamity on the eve of harvest. In this hour of grief, I stand with you,” she wrote on Twitter. Hundreds of acres of crops was destroyed by hail and unseasonal rains that swept the region Saturday night.
